Adding a Prefix to the Default Group (Nautical Ranks)
You cannot directly create a prefix for the default group in the same way you would a new group. However, by adding individual values you can achieve the same effect.
Step 1: Open LuckPerms Web Editor
- Log into your server, or, your servers dashboard.
- Run the command
/lp editoror if you're using your servers dashboard runlp editor
Step 2: Inside the editor, select the default group
- Wait for your dashboard to load.
- If prompted to approve the connection, copy and paste the provided command.
- If you're using your servers dashboard, remember to remove the

Step 3: Set a weight
Choose a weight for your group. Higher weights take priority if multiple groups exist.
Example: 10
- Navigate to the field marked with a "3" in the image above
- Add the permission
weight.x; replacexwith the weight you want this group to have.
Step 4: Add a prefix entry
Prefix entries use the following format:
prefix.{weight}.{color-code}{prefix}
{weight}= The weight value you set in the previous step.{color-code}= A Minecraft colour code. You can find those linked here: https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Formatting_codes.{prefix}= The text, emoji, or unicode icon you want to appear before the username.
Example:
prefix.10.&6[]
Step 5: Save & Apply changes
Click Apply in the web editor to save your changes. All current and future default players will now automatically have the prefix displayed.
Notes:
- Without the Nautical Ranks resource pack, the unicode will not render.
- Ensure you're using the correct unicode from your
default.jsonfiles- Weight determines priority if multiple groups exist.
